This anode uses zinc as its sacrificial metal element. Zinc is chosen for its ability to corrode preferentially, which helps protect more expensive or critical pool metals from galvanic corrosion—a process where one metal corrodes in preference to another when both are in electrical contact in water. This is why zinc is used in the pool defender zinc anode.
